Rowing

Rowing at Ryan is a Team sport comprising of girls and boys from years 8 to 12.

Seven schools in the Townsville district compete at several regattas during Terms 2 & 3. The Townsville All Schools Rowing Association (TASRA) governs school rowing in the area.

As a sport, rowing provides one of the most comprehensive aerobic fitness workouts and is great for strength development. Rowers develop skills as a team in crewed boats and as individuals in single sculls. Rowing at Ryan is an inclusive sport, catering for all levels of ability.

The Riverway Rowing Club (RRC) is our host club and the rowers train at their facility on Riverway Drive. Townsville Grammar School also trains at Riverway. The five other Townsville school rowing teams are hosted by the Townsville (Tvl) JCU Rowing Club on Riverside Boulevard. All the Townsville school regattas are held at these two facilities.

The Riverway and Tvl JCU Rowing Clubs, are Masters Clubs and they compete at Regattas through out North Queensland. The Ryan Rowing Team has competed with Riverway at various regional regattas (Mackay, Tablelands Regattas). This is a great opportunity for the school rowers to row with very experienced rowers and to develop their skills.

The Riversiders are the Ryan Rowing parents support group, established in 2009 to assist the school with its five year rowing plan. Last year's highlight was the purchase of two new boats (a double and a quad) made available from a grant from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.

Ryan Rowing have dedicated coaching staff, who fully supervise the safety of all rowers on and off the water. Coaches encourage team work, enjoyment and healthy living as the benefits for school children being involved in rowing at Ryan Catholic College.

We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land and waters, the Wulgurukaba, and that this country has been a place of learning and ceremony for tens of thousands of years. We also acknowledge the neighbouring language groups as brothers and sisters of the land. We pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging. May we walk gently and peacefully on this land together.
