Vocational Education and Training (VET)

What is VET?

Vocational education and training (VET) provides students with nationally recognised training in job related and technical skills in a large number of careers and industries. Students at Ryan Catholic College have the opportunity to complete qualifications at certificate I, II and III level while at school. In addition, the College provides students with opportunities to use other training organisations to complete qualifications in other industry areas outside of school. VET also includes school-based traineeships and apprenticeships.

Benefits of VET

  • VET provides students with nationally recognised qualifications
  • VET provides students with QCE points
  • VET graduates earn wages comparable to, if not exceeding, that of university graduates.
  • VET graduates have a higher employment rate than undergraduates. More than 78% of VET graduates are employed after training.
  • The VET sector currently provides training courses for 9 out of 10 occupations predicted to have the greatest growth of new jobs over the next five years.
  • Completion of a VET qualification has been shown to lower the likelihood of an individual becoming long-term unemployed.
