Vocational Education and Training (VET)

What is VET?

Vocational education and training (VET) provides students with nationally recognised training in job related and technical skills in a large number of careers and industries. Students at Ryan Catholic College have the opportunity to complete qualifications at certificate I, II and III level while at school. In addition, the College provides students with opportunities to use other training organisations to complete qualifications in other industry areas outside of school. VET also includes school-based traineeships and apprenticeships.

Benefits of VET

  • Provides students with nationally recognised qualifications.
  • Provides students with QCE points.
  • Graduates earn wages comparable to, if not exceeding, that of university graduates.
  • Graduates have a higher employment rate than undergraduates. More than 78% of VET graduates are employed after training.
  • The VET sector currently provides training courses for 9 out of 10 occupations predicted to have the greatest growth of new jobs over the next five years.
  • Completion of a VET qualification has been shown to lower the likelihood of an individual becoming long-term unemployed.

We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land and waters, the Wulgurukaba, and that this country has been a place of learning and ceremony for tens of thousands of years. We also acknowledge the neighbouring language groups as brothers and sisters of the land. We pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging. May we walk gently and peacefully on this land together.
