QCE Information

Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE)

The Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) is Queensland's senior secondary schooling qualification. It is internationally recognised and provides evidence of senior schooling achievements.

What you can study

The QCE lets you choose from a wide range of subjects and courses to suit your interests, further study and career goals.

In Year 10 your school will work with you and your parents/carers to plan your pathway to a QCE.

How the QCE works

To receive a QCE, you must achieve the set amount of learning, at the set standard, in a set pattern, while meeting literacy and numeracy requirements. You are also required to have a learning account and achieve at least 1 credit of Core learning while enrolled in a Queensland school.

ATAR

The Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) is the primary mechanism used nationally for tertiary admissions.

The ATAR indicates your position relative to other ATAR-eligible students.

The Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) calculates ATAR's for Queensland school students seeking entry to tertiary courses.

What do I need for an ATAR?

The ATAR is calculated from results you achieve in Units 3 and 4 in:

5 General subjects, or

4 General subjects + 1 Applied subject or completed VET qualification at Certificate III level or above.

To be eligible for an ATAR, you must successfully complete an English subject. This means you must achieve a result of C or above in one of five QCAA English subjects — English, Essential English, Literature, English & Literature Extension or English as an Additional Language.

While you must meet this standard to be eligible to receive an ATAR, your English result will not be included in the calculation of your ATAR unless it is one of your best results.

We would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land, the Wulgurukaba people. We also acknowledge their neighbouring brothers and sisters on the land, the Bindal people. We pay our respects to elders past present and emerging. May we walk gently and peacefully on this land together.
